Squirrel Bait Productions exists to share Kenny Gamble’s original music with the world along with the stories behind them & a repository of materials that allows others to use the songs if they want to.

It will take some time to catalog & populate the stories, demos & resources for all of the music. We will add songs as individual blog posts.

From Kenny…

It’s named “Squirrel Bait Productions” to honor the memory of my little sister who passed away in 2014 from leukemia.  Kathy remains a tremendous source of inspiration to me to reach for my dreams & let it all out.  My memory of her reminds me that God has a plan for all of our lives, so pursue that plan with enthusiasm.

I penned my first song at the age of 13 entitled “He’s Calling to You” in 1976 in our living room at our family piano. Since that time I’ve written hundreds of songs. Many of those songs are long forgotten, buried in notebooks or disregarded as ‘not good enough to share’.

I’ve written songs to share my heart, articulate my faith, direct others to Christ, as personal therapy, to exercise the craft, assist a minister to bring clarity, an attempt at being funny, let Lisa know what she means to me, express honor to a family member, help a friend tell their story…

Songwriting is an avenue for people like me to ‘let it all out’, without interruption, free from criticism (until after it’s shared). To expose the depths of one’s belief system, faith, philosophy, sense of humor or an attempt at striking gold with a hit. Even joining with friends for the dynamic & enjoyment of co-writing.

I’ve never really written songs with the intent of writing a hit. Most of my songs are introspective, often personal & based on experiences. Sometimes melancholy. For some reason, those songs come more easily for me. Positive songs are sometimes difficult for me to articulate. I’m a happy person, just not sure why I guess. 🙂

My goal in songwriting is to create good art.  Something new.  A fresh perspective.  Avoid the cliche’.  I value the ability to create word pictures (though I’ve got a long way to go).
